NRP- Neonatal Resuscitation Skills Class

(American Academy of Pediatrics Course) Provided at our Turlock-CA, Merced-CA and Modesto-CA Locations

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program® (NRP®) is based on the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care of Neonate. The NRP Course format requires learners to study the material from the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 8th Edition, and take an online examination before attending the NRP course. Learners attend an interactive course that includes little or no lecture about textbook contents, uses course time for skill stations and supervised practice, and uses of simulation and debriefing as an important part of the learning experience. Candidates must be health-care providers (medical, nursing, paramedical allied health professionals) whose daily occupations demand proficiency in neonatal delivery room resuscitation.

NOTE: THE NRP ONLINE EXAMINATION MUST BE TAKEN NO MORE THAN 30-DAYS PRIOR TO COURSE DATE. (TO ACCESS ONLINE EXAM, A HEALTHSTREAM FEE MUST BE PAID SEPARATE BY STUDENT, EXTRA COST IS $45.00) Price increased for the 8th edition.

ESSENTIALS OR ADVANCED: For the 8th edition of NRP, two different types of providers are essentials and advanced.
  • NRP Essentials covers: lessons 1 through 4 of the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 8th Edition. Anyone involved in the care of a newborn should take NRP Essentials.
  • NRP Advanced covers: lessons 1 through 11 of the textbook. It is appropriate for those who attend births and are responsible for anticipated resuscitation of a newborn with known risk factors and those who participate in neonatal resuscitation beyond positive-pressure ventilation.
  • Disclaimer: Each organization will determine its policy for who should attain NRP Essentials or NRP Advanced provider status. If a Healthcare Professional is unsure which NRP level to take, they should probably take NRP Advanced and checking with their institution, if applicable.
